Stress, tension, aches and body pains, BUH-BYE. Long used as a cure for insomnia and thanks to its sedative effects, Lavender is the king of comedown herbs. Diffuse it in your space or use topically to help with infections like fevers, to treat sunburns and bug bites, and for strains and sprains. It helps to relieve anger and exhaustion, calming the central nervous system and soothing and cleansing the spirit.
Common Uses: Lavender essential oil has been known for its antiseptic, analgesic and skin and wound-healing properties. Its sedative properties – which may be viable in treating manic depression – help bring down blood pressure and calm palpitations. For general relaxation, rub 2 drops of Lavender into the palms of your hands or wrists; hold them close to your face, then inhale deeply. Or, rub a drop or two onto the soles of your feet. Add 5 drops to a diffuser and allow the vapours to permeate your home or office space. A drop or two of Lavender on your pillow may lead to better sleep. To treat headaches, use a drop or two of Lavender and massage around the neck or temples. Reduce the itch and swelling from bug stings and bites or burns by rubbing a drop or two of Lavender onto the affected area. Make a cold compress with a few drops of Lavender on a towel to soothe fevers and burns.
