The earthy, smoky notes of Vetiver have a grounding and centering effect on the mind. Deeply spiritual, this oil – derived from the roots of a tropical grass – is also known as the “oil of tranquility”. It quiets the central nervous system, and cools the body when it’s sultry outside. Because it’s a relaxant, it’s also long served as an aphrodisiac, working to calm the mind and the body’s cortisol levels.
Common Uses: Vetiver has traditionally been used for its calming and sedating properties. Useful for just before taking an examination, or before a visit to the dentist. It’s been used to treat fevers and heat stroke, symptoms of ADHD and ADD, and increase libido. The oil is also greatly used in the perfumery industry as a fixative. Diffuse several drops of Vetiver and inhale, to experience its calming, grounding effects. Add a 1-2 drops of Vetiver to a cold towel to create a compress for soothing heat-related conditions.
